Shishido Ryoh
Melodramatic, beautiful Shishido starts out very much a conceited, self-indulgent brat. He wasn't simply vain about his tennis skills, an area in which he believed himself better than he was; his physical appearance (his long hair in particular) was very important to him. Shishido was very much blinded by his vanity, and he was fated to a very rude awakening. He was humiliatingly crushed by Fudomine's Tachibana, and lost his spot as a regular. Shishido fell just as far as he could... but he also managed to climb back up again. He left behind any false illusions about himself and learned to accept his short comings.
In the end, the now short-haired, scarred Shishido replaced blind vanity with a fierce, hard pride earned in pain and determination. But his greatest gain was learning to trust and rely on someone else, and learning to be relied on in return. And it was Ohtori, his new doubles partner, that taught him that.
